A Byzantine monastery in Greece, located about 20 km east-southeast of Delphi, known for its ancient ruins. Founded in 945 by the hermit Lucas (896-953), the monk Lucas built a church over his tomb in about 1011 after his death. This is a typical example of Middle Byzantine architecture, with a large dome supported by squinches and a Greek cross plan. The mosaics decorating the interior, depicting the Life of Christ, have a gold background and emphasize the glory of Christ. The murals in the crypt depict the Passion and Resurrection of Christ.
