Located in the inland area of central China, this province occupies the Yangtze River and Huai River basins. Its abbreviated name is Wan. Its capital is Hefei. The province has excellent transport links, including the Yangtze River and Huai River, as well as railways between Beijing and Shanghai, Huainan (Bengbu to Yuxikou), Suifu (Xuzhou to Fuyang), and Ningtong (Nanjing to Tongling), and roads are also well developed. The southern part of the province is dominated by hilly areas below 1,000 meters, while the northern part is a vast fertile plain. Agricultural production has improved, especially since the Huai River flood control works, and the province produces wheat, soybeans, rice, tea, tobacco, cotton, and other crops. Livestock and forestry are also abundant. Mineral resources are an important resource for the province, producing coal, iron, copper, and alum. Ma'anshan Iron and Steel Company in Ma'anshan city in the east is an emerging steel industrial base in the Jiangnan region. In the south is Huangshan, one of China's most scenic spots, reminiscent of a landscape painting. Traditional industries are thriving, with a large production of paper, ink, bamboo utensils, paper umbrellas, ceramics, and more. The area is 139,800 ^km2 . Population: 69.12 million (2014).

中国中部の内陸部にあり，長江・淮河(わいが)流域一帯を占める省。簡称は皖(かん)。省都は合肥。省内は交通至便で，長江・淮河の水運のほか，京滬(けいこ)（北京〜上海），淮南（蚌埠(ぼうふ)〜裕渓口），【すい】阜(すいふ)（徐州〜阜陽），寧銅（南京〜銅陵）などの鉄路があり，道路も発達する。南部には1000m以下の丘陵地帯が広がり，北部は広大な沃野(よくや)をなす。特に淮河治水工事が進んでからは農業生産が向上し，小麦，大豆，米，茶，タバコ，綿花などを産する。畜産，林産も豊富。鉱産は本省の重要資源で石炭，鉄，銅，ミョウバンを産する。東部の馬鞍山市の馬鞍山鋼鉄公司は，江南地方の新興鉄鋼工業基地となっている。南部に山水画を思わせる，中国有数の景勝地黄山がある。伝統工業が盛んで，紙，墨，竹器，紙傘(かさ)，陶磁器などの生産が多い。安徽商人（新安商人）の出身地としても名高い。13万9800km²。6912万人（2014）。
