Osijek is a city in the Slavonia region in northeastern Croatia. It is the region's capital and is located on the Drava River. It originated as the ancient Roman fortified city of Murcia, and came under Ottoman rule from the 16th to 17th centuries. In the Tubruja district of the old town, many Baroque buildings built during the Habsburg Empire from the 18th to 19th centuries remain.
