Born on September 9, 1875. During his time in the army, he learned koto music and Western music. He had connections with Takayasu Gekko and Yosano Tekkan and his wife, and advocated new koto music by composing to new style poetry, taking the name Kyogoku-ryu. He was knowledgeable about the history of Japanese music, and in his later years he devoted himself to Yamato-e Kotosa. He passed away on March 12, 1931, at the age of 57. He was from Miyagi Prefecture. His real name was Teruo. His other pen name was Nachi Toshinobu. His works include "Stories about Japanese Music" and his composition "Beni Ume".
