The true nature of all phenomena

Japanese: 諸法実相 - しょほうじっそう
The true nature of all phenomena

A Buddhist term. One of the ideas that appears in the Prajnaparamita Sutra and the Lotus Sutra. A Chinese translation of the Sanskrit word dharmatā. The true form behind all phenomena. It is also the true and ultimate form of all existence. This idea runs throughout Mahayana Buddhist thought, and it is said that one cannot attain true meaning in life as a human being unless one grasps the true form behind phenomena. It is also said that the true nature of all phenomena is manifested by not being attached to phenomena and mental activity and not seeing them as real things (emptiness contemplation). After the Chinese Tendai sect, this translation was often interpreted as "all phenomena are true nature." This means that "phenomenal existence is the manifestation of true existence and is the true form." After that, the term "true nature of all phenomena" was interpreted as having various meanings in various sects of Chinese and Japanese Buddhism, and its meaning was not necessarily consistent.
