Sozzini, L.

…A free thinker born into a distinguished family in Siena, Italy. He was the successor to the anti-Trinitarian doctrine advocated by his uncle Lelio Sozzini (1525-62). After studying law, Lelio turned his attention to the Reformation and became acquainted with reformers both at home and abroad, but he eventually formed a free group that denied the doctrine of the Trinity and died in Zurich. Faustus was a Catholic while he served the Medici family, but after studying theology in Basel he made his opposition to the Trinity clear, and in 1578 he moved to Transylvania, and in 1579 he went to Krakow (now Krakow) in Poland, where he remained until the end of his life. …

…イタリアのシエナの名門に生まれた自由思想家。叔父レリオ・ソッツィーニLelio Sozzini(1525‐62)の唱えた反三位一体論の後継者。レリオは法学を学んだのち宗教改革に心を向け,内外の改革者と交際するが,ついに三位一体の教義を否定する自由なグループをつくり,チューリヒで死んだ。ファウストはメディチ家に仕えている間はカトリックを奉じていたが,バーゼルで神学研究をして三位一体論に反対の立場を明確にし,1578年トランシルバニアに移り,79年ポーランドのクラカウ(現,クラクフ)に行って終生そこにとどまった。…
