Silicon Photo Diode. Widely used as the light receiving element of cameras and the light receiving body of image sensors. It has advantages such as a fast response speed, no hysteresis like CdS, and noise suppression because it generates electric current. However, early products had sensitivity over a wider range than visible light, so they were filter corrected. Canon calls it SPC.

Silicon Photo Diode（シリコンフォトダイオード）の略。　カメラの受光素子および撮像素子の受光体として広く使われている。応答速度が早い、CdSのような履歴現象がない、電流を発生させるためにノイズを抑えられる、などの利点がある。ただし、初期の製品は可視光よりも広い範囲に感度を持っていたため、フィルター補正してあった。なお、キヤノンではSPCと呼ぶ。
