Spaarne

...Since the end of the 19th century, it has been a modern industrial city and a commuter town for Amsterdam. It is also the central city of Zuid-Kennemerland, which includes the dune area in the west of the city, the reclaimed land of Lake Haarlem in the south, and the reclaimed land of the river IJ in the north. It developed at a bend in the Spaarne, which flows into the IJ, and after it was granted a city law in 1245, beer brewing, woolen textiles, shipbuilding, soap production, and bleaching industries developed. During the Dutch revolt against Spain, it was occupied by sea beggars in 1572 and took sides with the rebels, but was surrounded and occupied by Spanish troops the following year, and returned to the rebel side in 1577.

…19世紀末からは近代的工業都市，アムステルダムのベッドタウンであり，また市西部の砂丘地帯，南部のハールレム湖干拓地，北部のエイ川干拓地などを含む南ケンネメルラントZuid‐Kennemerlandの中心都市である。　エイ川に注ぐスパールネSpaarne川の湾曲部に発達し，1245年都市法を与えられて以降ビール醸造，毛織物業，造船，セッケン製造，漂白業などが発達した。スペインに対するネーデルラントの反乱に際し，1572年海乞食(乞食団)に占拠されて反乱側に立ったが，翌年スペイン軍に包囲占領され，77年ふたたび反乱側に戻った。…
