Okunai-sama - Okunai-sama

Japanese:
Okunai-sama - Okunai-sama

...The heads of two figures, a man and a woman, or a horse, are carved or inked on the tops of mulberry trees or other trees, dressed in a costume called Osendaku in a wrapped or pierced style, and enshrined in a Shinto altar inside a house. These are called Oshira-sama or Oshira-botoke. Oshinmei-sama in Fukushima Prefecture and Okunai-sama in Iwate and Yamagata Prefectures are probably of the same lineage. They are often enshrined in old pioneering village homes, but may also be owned by religious figures such as Itako.

From "Zashiki-warashi"

...A type of spirit or monster believed in the northern Tohoku region, centered around Iwate Prefecture. This name comes from the fact that it is believed to appear in the living rooms of old houses and to have the appearance of a young boy, and in some places it is called Zashikibokko or Heyabokko. Kurawarashi and Kurabokko, which appear in barns and storehouses, are also spirits of the same type. Characteristics of this spirit include being a young child with a bowl cut, having a red face and hair, living in the inner room of an old house as the head of the family, and playing pranks such as turning over the pillow on people who stay in the room where Zashikiwarashi is believed to live, but its most essential characteristic is that this spirit controls the rise and fall of the family. ...
