Rank book - Bungencho

A list of vassals compiled by feudal lords during the Sengoku and Azuchi-Momoyama periods. It lists the vassals' land and stipends according to their family status and role. It is also called a "bugencho." One particularly famous example is the Odawara Shusho Yakucho (Record of Odawara Domain and Duties), compiled by Hojo Ujiyasu in 1559 (Eiroku 2). Many other records still exist, including the Oda Nobukatsu Rank Register, the Ukita Family Rank Register, the Narita Family Rank Register, the Satomi Family Rank Register, and the Kato Kiyomasa Samurai Register. However, many of these were forged during the Edo period, either to commemorate or honor the lords of the region during the Sengoku period, or as records of their families' history to raise their own family status. Representative examples include the Imagawa family rank register and the Hachigata Hojo family retainer rank register.

戦国・織豊(しょくほう)期に大名が作成した家臣団の名簿。家臣の家格や役割などに応じて、その所領や扶持高(ふちだか)などを記したもの。「ぶげんちょう」ともいう。とくに著名なものに、北条氏康(うじやす)が1559年（永禄2）にまとめた小田原衆所領役帳(おだわらしゅうしょりょうやくちょう)がある。そのほか、織田信雄(のぶかつ)分限帳、浮田(うきた)家分限帳、成田(なりた)家分限帳、里見(さとみ)家分限帳、加藤清正侍帳(きよまささむらいちょう)など多数が現存している。しかしそれらのなかには、戦国期の当該地域領主の追慕・顕彰のためや、自家の家格を高めるための由緒書的なものなど、江戸期に偽作されたものも多い。今川家分限帳や鉢形(はちがた)北条家臣分限録などはその代表的なものである。
