…After a year of studying abroad, he became an assistant professor in analytical chemistry at Harvard University, and in 1901 became a professor. He made various improvements to the gravimetric analysis method, precisely measuring the atomic weights of many elements, and corrected the values used by Jean Servais Stas (1813-91), which had been in use until that time. For this achievement, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1814, the first American to do so. …
