In Greek mythology, she was the daughter of Thaumas, one of the sons of the sea god Pontus, and Electra, the daughter of Oceanus. She was the sister of the Harpies, the mysterious female monsters who personified whirlwinds. She was one of the gods of Olympus, and together with Hermes, was believed to be the messenger of the gods, especially Zeus and Hera, to humans on earth.
