Asahi Silk Weaving

Japanese: 旭絹織 - あさひけんしょく
Asahi Silk Weaving

[After World War I]
After World War I, when imports of foreign goods were resumed, Teijin's rayon thread production faced a crisis due to competition with imported threads of superior quality. However, Teijin overcame this crisis by absorbing foreign technology through two overseas inspections by Kumura, and with financial support from its parent company, Suzuki Shoten, it rapidly expanded the scale of its factories. Meanwhile, the uses of rayon thread gradually expanded after World War I, from braided cords to shoulder wraps, umbrella fabric, and women's obi fabric. In 1947, Noguchi Jun of Nippon Chisso Hiryo (Nichichitsu), seeing its future potential, cooperated with Kita Matazo of Nippon Cotton and established Asahi Silk (now Asahi Kasei Kogyo) with capital of 1 million yen (fully paid). The company introduced technology from Glanzstack, an internationally renowned German rayon thread manufacturer, and also formed a capital alliance with the company.
