Halaf Culture - Halaf Culture

Japanese: ハラフ文化 - ハラフぶんか
Halaf Culture - Halaf Culture
A prehistoric culture of northern Mesopotamia, characterized by painted pottery excavated by MF von Oppenheim of Germany in 1911-13 and 1929 at Tell Halaf, located on the River Khabur near the Turkish border in Syria. This pottery is a masterpiece that is considered the pinnacle of West Asian pottery. The main part of the ruins is the ancient walled city of Guzana, where the palace of the Aramese prince Kapara, built around 900 BC, was located. When deep digging was carried out in connection with the investigation of the palace ruins, a large number of painted pottery of a new type was unearthed, and it was later named Halaf pottery. However, the details of the remains are unknown, and it was only through stratigraphic excavations at other sites that it was possible to place the culture as part of the prehistoric culture of northern Mesopotamia, as the Hassuna period (Samarra period), the Halaf period, and the Ubaid period.
