This is the diary of Konoe Kanetsune, regent and chancellor of the Kamakura period. It is also called "Okaya Kanetsune Koki" or "Okayadono Goki." Seven volumes in total remain in the Yomei Bunko collection: one volume each of excerpts from 1222 (Jo'o 1), 1223, and 1224, old manuscripts from spring and summer of 1246 (Kangen 4), and December and leap December of 1248 (Hoji 2), one volume each of handwritten manuscripts from spring of 1249 (Kencho 1), and old manuscripts from summer, October of 1950, and autumn of 1951. Other remains include a record of the Chunagon's arrival in battle in February 1225 (Karoku 1) transcribed by Konoe Fusatsugu, and a record of the Emperor's abdication and accession to the throne in October and December 1232 (Joei 1) with a colophon reading "Transcribed in 1511." Also, excerpts from Fusatsugu's handwriting suggest the existence of a total of four volumes of diaries spanning the years 1225 (Karoku 1) to 1228 (Ansetsu 2). These are valuable diaries of a nobleman from the mid-Kamakura period. [Osamu Nawa] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
