Akitoki Kanazawa

Japanese: 金沢顕時 - かねざわあきとき

1248－1301 A military commander of the Kamakura period.
Born in the second year of the Hōji era. Son of Kanazawa (Hojo) Sanetoki. He became a member of the Hyojōshū and Echigo no Kami, and in 1281 became the head of the Injutsu Party. In 1282, he was implicated in the Shimotsuki Uprising, in which his wife's father, Adachi Yasumori, was killed by the regent Hojo Sadatoki, and was exiled to Habuno Manor in Shimōsa, where he became a monk. He was later pardoned and became a shusō. He loved learning, and many of the Chinese books he copied are stored in the Kanazawa Bunko. He died on March 28, the third year of the Shōan era. He was 54 years old. His original name was Tokikata, and he was commonly known as Echigo Shiro.

宝治(ほうじ)2年生まれ。金沢(北条)実時の子。評定衆,越後守(えちごのかみ)となり,弘安(こうあん)4年(1281)引付頭人。8年妻の父安達泰盛が執権北条貞時に討たれた霜月(しもつき)騒動に連座,下総(しもうさ)埴生(はぶの)荘に流されて出家。のちゆるされて執奏(しっそう)となる。学問をこのみ,書写した漢籍のおおくが金沢文庫におさめられた。正安(しょうあん)3年3月28日死去。54歳。初名は時方。通称は越後四郎。
