A town in Tokoro County in northeastern Hokkaido. It includes a vast forest area in the upper reaches of the Tokoro River. It produces potatoes, sugar beets, and onions, and dairy farming is practiced in the hills. Forestry is also practiced, and the forest products industry is one of the main industries.
