…In these times, Polish national opera, national instrumental music, and struggle songs were born. Maciej Kamieński's (1734-1821) opera "Blessed Poverty" (1778) depicted rural life, but the first national opera in terms of subject matter and music was Jan Stefani's (1746-1829) "Cracow Burghers and Mountaineers" (1794). In instrumental music, there are symphonies by A. Haczewski and Bazyli Bohdanowicz (1740-1817), a trio for two violins and a cello by Felix Janiewicz (1762-1848), and piano pieces such as the sentimental polonaise "Farewell to the Fatherland" by Michał Kleofas Ogiński, which reflects the tragic society of the time. …
