…His real name was Antonio Pisano. He was born in Pisa before 1395, and moved to his mother's hometown of Verona at an early age. He probably studied there under Stefano da Zevio (c. 1374-?), but his early works show the influence of Altichiero. He was invited to Venice in 1415-22 to continue the series of murals in the Palazzo Ducale that Gentile da Fabriano had begun (the works are no longer extant). …
