Efremov, Oleg Nikolaevich

[Died] May 24, 2000. Moscow. Russian director. After graduating from the Moscow Art Theatre's drama school, he founded the Young Actors' Research Theatre in 1957, which he renamed Sabremennik (Theatre of Modern People) the following year. He staged works such as Rosov's The Eternal Life, reviving the hollowed-out ideals of Stanislavsky. In 1971 he became the Moscow Art Theatre's chief director, and in 1987 he became its artistic director, attracting attention for his innovative directing.

A city in the Tula Oblast in western Russia. It is located about 120 km south-southeast of the oblast capital, Tula, on the Krasibaya Mecha River, a tributary of the Don River. The city developed around a fortress built in the late 17th century, and currently has industries in synthetic rubber, food (cheese, canned vegetables, meat), etc. The railway line connects Tula and Yelets. The population is about 55,000.
