A bivalve of the family Veneridae (illustration), the most commonly found shellfish during clam digging. The shell is 4 cm long, 3 cm high, and 2.8 cm bulge. It is long and oval, with many thin radial ribs on the surface of the shell, which intersect with the growing veins to form a somewhat cloth-like texture. The apex of the shell is slightly forward, followed by a black-brown ligament connecting the left and right sides. The shell color is brighter in young shells, but the color varies greatly from individual to individual, ranging from white to bluish-black, and some have four radiating dark bands, while others have ripple-like or broken lines.
