Suggestion system

… In this situation, the basic awareness of problems raised by human relations theory and the concrete approach to solving human problems in industry were welcomed by American industry as a savior from the late 1930s onwards, especially in the 1940s. Many companies began to implement suggestion systems that encouraged and adopted employees' suggestions about work and other matters to stimulate a sense of participation, grievance systems that accepted and handled various complaints about the workplace, and interview programs, attitude surveys, and morale surveys that actively listened to employees' opinions and dissatisfaction and sought to discover the underlying emotions and attitudes. In other words, these were attempts to move away from the view of employees as instrumental, isolated, and (economically) rational, and to apply the scalpel of management to the aspects of employees' subjective, group-member, and illogical behavior. …
