Its other name, Min, is the name of an ethnic group that lived in this region in ancient times. It has an area of ​​121,400 km2 and a population of 32.61 million (1996). It governs one district, eight prefecture-level cities, 15 county-level cities, and 46 counties, with Fuzhou as its capital. Up to 90% of the province is mountainous and hilly, with heights of 100 to 200 meters, and the only plains are narrow coastal areas and mountain basins. The coastline is highly curved, and there are more than 1,100 islands. Since there was little arable land and the soil was poor, agriculture was not well developed, so the people have long sought a way of life overseas, and together with Guangdong Province, it is one of the two major birthplaces of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia. …
