A sulfide mineral whose main component is gallium (Ga). In 1958, it was described as the first independent gallium mineral from the Tsumeb mine in Namibia. It corresponds to the Ga-substituted iron (Fe) of chalcopyrite and belongs to the chalcopyrite system. It has not yet been reported as euhedral. It occurs in some deep-thermal polymetallic deposits, forming a complex coexistence relationship. It has not yet been reported to occur in Japan. Coexisting minerals include bornite, chalcocite, cobaltite, sphalerite, pyrite, galena, renierite (chemical formula (Cu,Zn) 11Fe4 (Ge,As) 2S16 ) , and germanite. Identification has not been described as no individual grains large enough to reveal macroscopic properties have yet been found. The name refers to the presence of the element gallium.
