Suraj Mal (English spelling)

…Unlike the Rajputs, they did not form a kingdom before the 18th century, but in the later period of Aurangzeb (1658-1707), they rebelled and began to deal a blow to Mughal rule. Around the middle of the 18th century, they were unified under Suraj Mal, and established a small kingdom with its capital at Bharatpur, including the areas of Agra, Aligarh, and Meerut. Suraj Mal was a skilled leader, and although he did not ultimately take part in the battle, he was powerful enough to be called upon by the Maratha Confederacy for help in the Third Battle of Panipat in 1761. …
