Japanese: ジャクン族 - ジャクンぞく（英語表記）Jakun

A general term for the Proto-Malay peoples who live on the Malay Peninsula. They speak Old Malay, an Austronesian language. They mainly practice slash-and-burn agriculture, some of them cultivate wet rice, and also gather and hunt. They use bamboo (and in some cases wooden) blowguns as hunting tools and weapons. They do not use bows and arrows, but do use spears and daggers (kiris). They use canoes on rivers. They have a more advanced social organization than the Semang, and in village communities there is a chief called a bating, who is followed by other positions such as deputy chief Penrima. The bating is in charge of trials and arbitration, acts as a medicine man in the event of illness, and officiates at marriages. The position of bating is generally hereditary. Both men and women can inherit property, but the ratio varies by region. They practice facial and body decoration, and tooth-sharpening.

マレー半島に住むプロト・マレー系の諸民族の総称。言語はオーストロネシア語族の古マレー語を話す。焼畑耕作を主とし，水稲耕作を営む者もあり，また採集，狩猟もあわせ行う。狩猟具や武器として竹製 (一部では木製) の吹き矢を用いる。弓矢は用いないが槍，短剣 (クリス) は用いる。カヌーは川で使用される。セマン族より高度な社会組織をもち，村落共同体にはバティンと呼ばれる首長が存在し，その下に副首長のプンリマなどの役職がある。バティンは裁判や調停を司り，病人が出た場合は呪医の役割を果し，結婚に際しては司式者の役割を果す。バティンの地位は世襲制が原則。また，財産の相続は男女ともできるが，その比率は地域によって異なる。顔面装飾や身体装飾，研歯の風習をもつ。
