Nobukane Oda

A feudal lord in the Sengoku and early Edo periods. Son of Oda Nobuhide and younger brother of Nobunaga. Commonly known as Sanjuro, his given name was originally Nobuyoshi. Also written as Nobukane. After Nobunaga's invasion of northern Ise in 1569, he became the lord of Ueno Castle in Ise, and thereafter followed Nobunaga in battles all over the country. After the Honnoji Incident, he joined Toyotomi Hideyoshi and became the lord of Anotsu Castle in Ise, but during the siege of Odawara, he displeased Hideyoshi and had his territory confiscated. He became a monk, took the name Roinusai, and entered Jionji Temple in Kyoto. Later, he was summoned to serve as Hideyoshi's storyteller, and in 1598, he was given 36,000 koku of rice in Kashiwara, Tanba. During the Battle of Sekigahara, he joined the Western Army and took part in the siege of Tanabe Castle in Tango, but fortunately his former territory was secured.

戦国・江戸前期の大名。織田信秀の子で,信長の弟。通称は三十郎,名ははじめ信良。信兼とも書かれる。永禄12(1569)年の信長による北伊勢進攻後,伊勢上野城の城主となり,以後,信長に従って各地に転戦した。本能寺の変後,豊臣秀吉に属し,伊勢安濃津城主となったが,小田原攻めのとき,秀吉の機嫌をそこねて所領を没収され,出家して老犬斎と号し,京都慈雲寺に入っている。のち,秀吉の御咄衆として召し出され,慶長3(1598)年,丹波柏原3万6000石を与えられた。関ケ原の戦では西軍に属し丹後田辺城攻めに加わったが,幸いにも旧領を安堵された。
