Ta'amim (English spelling)

...In the Jewish church, musical instruments were no longer used except for the shofar, and the ritual music was mainly unaccompanied vocal music. The basis of this ritual music was the recitation of the Old Testament (cantillation), which was perfected in Palestine around 900 as the accent system (Ta'amim). Prayer songs were also sung in the Jewish church.
