A checkpoint located on the Edogawa River under Sekijuku Castle in Shimousa Province (present-day Sekijuku Town, Chiba Prefecture). In 1616, Sekijuku Riverbank was designated as one of 16 designated shipping points along the Tone and Edo Rivers, and a checkpoint was established in 1631. Management of the checkpoint was entrusted to the Sekijuku Domain, and it is said that two head clerks, six to eight rank guards, two gatekeepers, and some foot soldiers were stationed there. The checkpoint selected 40 wholesalers from the three banks of Sekijuku Riverbank, Uchigashi, Mukogashi, and Mukoshimo, to screen the cargo of riverboats and travelers. The system was to screen ships traveling between northern Kanto and Edo, charge a fee to contracted ships, and issue shipping bills. It was abolished in 1869.
