[Psychoprophylactic painless childbirth]
This method was proposed by GD Read of the UK in 1933. It involves making the mother fully understand the process of normal childbirth, educating her that childbirth is a physiological phenomenon and is not inherently painful, while also having her practice breathing techniques and relaxation methods for childbirth from the time of pregnancy onwards, before giving birth. A recent variation of this method is the Lamaze method, devised by F. Lamaze of France.
