Chuncheon

A city in the western part of Gangwon Province, South Korea. It is the provincial capital of Gangwon Province. It has an area of ​​1,116.38 square kilometers and a population of 252,177 (2000). It was promoted to a city in 1949. It was merged with Chuncheon County in 1995. It is located in the center of the Chuncheon Basin, which is formed by the Bukhan River, Soyang River, and Gongjicheon River. It is known as a lakeside city due to the many dams in the surrounding area. The Chuncheon Industrial Complex, which mainly produces textile products, has been developed in Hopyeong-dong. It is also an important military city. It is home to Kangwon National University, Hallym University, and Chuncheon University of Education. It is the terminus of the Gyeongchun Line.

韓国（大韓民国）、江原道(こうげんどう／カンウォンド)西部にある都市。江原道の道庁所在地。面積1116.38平方キロメートル、人口25万2177（2000）。1949年、市に昇格。95年、春川郡と統合。北漢江、昭陽江、孔之(こうし)川によって形成された春川盆地の中心部に位置する。周辺にダムが多いので湖畔の都市とよばれる。後坪洞(こうひょうどう)には繊維製品の生産を主とする春川工業団地が造成されている。軍事的にも主要な都市である。国立江原大学校、翰林(かんりん)大学、春川教育大学がある。京春線の終点。
