…The area is now a completely dry, rugged mountain range, and contains tens of thousands of prehistoric rock paintings. The main sites are Sefar, Tan Zoumaïtak, Tin Abotéka, Tamrit, Oued Djérat, Jabbaren, and In Aouanrhat. The first discovery was made in 1909 by French Captain C. Cortier at Oued Asouf Mellen, followed by French Lieutenant M. Brenans in 1933 and H. Lhote in 1956.
