A city in southern Saskatchewan, Canada. Population 34,640 (1991). One of the central cities of the Canadian Prairies, known as a distribution center for wheat, beef cattle, and sheep. Flax is also grown nearby. The Canadian Pacific Railway and the Trans-Canada Highway (a transcontinental road) pass through the city, and it is also a key point on air routes. Industries such as flour milling, food processing, lumbering, and woolen textiles are also carried out. There are coalfields (brown coal) and sulfur mining sites nearby.
