...In pre-Hispanic times, this ball game was also played as a ritual that embodied their cosmology, which had a motif of the eternal struggle between light and darkness. Therefore, the continuation of the ball game was considered an obstacle to the Spanishization of the Indians, and it was banned during the colonial period. The Timbira people of the Amazon hold a log relay race against two teams. Like a relay race, each team runs 2-3 km carrying a log weighing over 100 kg on their shoulders, then passes it to the next runner, and the first team to reach the finish line wins.
