...The number of chloroplasts in a mesophyll cell is usually on the order of a few dozen to a few hundred, but there are also known cases where a single cell contains several thousand chloroplasts or even just one.
[Internal structure]
The internal structure of the chloroplast is broadly divided into the envelope, the stroma enclosed by it, the membrane system contained within the stroma (thylakoids, formerly called lamellae), and other structures (Figure 1).
