theological ethics

…In Catholic theology, it is a branch of theology that examines human actions that lead humans to a supernatural ultimate goal (eternal life or salvation as described in the Bible). It corresponds to theological ethics in Protestant theology. Medieval scholastic theology was considered a unified academic discipline that had both speculative and practical aspects, but from the mid-16th century, a distinction began to be made between the speculative "scholastic theology" and the practical "positivist-categorical theology." Eventually, the former came to be called dogmatic theology and the latter ethical theology, and there was a growing tendency to discuss them separately.
