It corresponds to theological ethics in Protestant theology. Medieval scholastic theology was considered a unified academic discipline that had both speculative and practical aspects, but from the mid-16th century, a distinction began to be made between the speculative "scholastic theology" and the practical "positivist-categorical theology."
