[Antoine's Free Theatre]
It was founded by Antoine with the cooperation of some of the actors from the amateur theater company Cercle Gaulois, and E. Zola and his students, up-and-coming naturalist writers. The first performance, held in front of a reservation-only audience at a small theater in a corner of Montmartre, Paris, featured Zola's original work Jacques d'Amour, which garnered unprecedented acclaim, and the company quickly became the center of naturalist theater.
