A town in Hiki County, central Saitama Prefecture, on the eastern foot of the Chichibu Mountains. The main settlement in the Ogawa Basin has long been famous for producing washi paper, including hotbed paper and wrapping paper. The Prefectural Paper Industry Testing Station serves as the Ogawa Washi Learning Center to foster the tradition. In 2014, Hosokawa paper, one type of Ogawa washi, was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage along with Sekishu-banshi and Honminoshi under the title "Washi: Japanese Handmade Paper Techniques." The town also produces fittings and timber, and is engaged in rice, dairy farming, sericulture, and vegetable cultivation. The town is served by the Hachiko Line and Tobu Railway Tojo Line. 60.36 km2 .
