A town in Hiki County, central Saitama Prefecture, on the eastern foot of the Chichibu Mountains. The main settlement in the Ogawa Basin has long been famous for producing washi paper, including hotbed paper and wrapping paper. The Prefectural Paper Industry Testing Station serves as the Ogawa Washi Learning Center to foster the tradition. In 2014, Hosokawa paper, one type of Ogawa washi, was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage along with Sekishu-banshi and Honminoshi under the title "Washi: Japanese Handmade Paper Techniques." The town also produces fittings and timber, and is engaged in rice, dairy farming, sericulture, and vegetable cultivation. The town is served by the Hachiko Line and Tobu Railway Tojo Line. 60.36 km2 . Population: 32,913 (2010).

Ogawa [town]

An old town in Shimomashiki County, in the eastern part of the Yatsushiro Plain, in central Kumamoto Prefecture. The town was originally a post station on the Satsuma Kaido road, and a trading center for goods from the Gokanosho and Itsuki regions. Rice, rush grass, and vegetables are cultivated. There are small silk-reeling and food factories, and somen noodles are a specialty. The town is accessed by the Kagoshima Main Line and National Route 3. In January 2005, it merged with Misumi Town and Shiranui Town in Uto County, and Matsubashi Town and Toyono Town in Shimomashiki County to become Uki City. 41.69 km2 . Population 13,919 (2003).

An old town in the northern part of Lake Kasumigaura, Higashiibaraki District, Ibaraki Prefecture. The central settlement was a key location for Lake Kasumigaura water transport in the early modern period, and was bustling with the establishment of the Mito Domain's Shipping Magistrate's Office, but has declined since the Meiji period. The Kashima Railway runs through the area. It is a farming region that produces a lot of vegetables and peanuts, and is known for its grass brooms. There are also food and machinery processing factories. The Air Self-Defense Force's Hyakuri Base is located here. In March 2006, Omitama was incorporated as a city by merging with Minosato Town, Higashiibaraki District, and Tamasato Village, Niiharu District. 62.98 km2 . Population 19,963 (2003).

Ogawa [town]

This is an old town in Nasu County, occupying the lowlands and hills on the west bank of the Naka River in eastern Tochigi Prefecture. The main settlement was a river port on the Naka River during the Edo period, but since the Meiji period it has fallen into decline as it has been off the railroad line. Rice cultivation, greenhouse horticulture, and dairy farming are carried out here. In October 2005, it merged with Bato Town in Nasu County to become a town, Nakagawa Town. 41.16 km2 . 7,246 people (2003).

茨城県東茨城郡,霞ヶ浦北部の旧町。中心集落は近世の霞ヶ浦水運の要地で,水戸藩の運漕奉行所が置かれ活気を呈したが,明治以降衰微。鹿島鉄道が通じる。畑作地帯で,野菜,ラッカセイを多産し,草ぼうきを特産,食品,機械加工などの工場もある。航空自衛隊百里(ひゃくり)基地がある。2006年3月,東茨城郡美野里町,新治郡玉里村と合併し市制,小美玉市となる。62.98km2。1万9963人(2003)。

栃木県東部,那珂(なか)川西岸の低地,丘陵部を占める那須郡の旧町。主集落は江戸時代,那珂川の河港であったが,明治以来,鉄道からはずれ衰微。米作,施設園芸,酪農が行われる。2005年10月,那須郡馬頭町と合併し町制,那珂川町となる。41.16km2。7246人(2003)。
