Ogawa [village] - Ogawa
A village in Kamiminochi County in northern Nagano Prefecture. Population 3,888 (1995). Located in the Chikuma Mountains, it is a mountain and agricultural village, most of which occupies the upper reaches of the Tsuchijiri River, a tributary of the Sai River. Part of it straddles the Susobana River basin to the north. Over 100 settlements are scattered across the narrow plains along the Tsuchijiri River and the slopes between the mountains. The central settlement, Takafu, is a town and village along the Nagano-Omachi Prefectural Road, where the Ogawa-Togakushi Line branching off leads to Togakushi Village, and it has long been an important transportation location in the mountains. Agriculture, making use of the steep mountainside, is the main industry, and in addition to sericulture and livestock farming, apples, tobacco, and other crops are grown.

長野県北部,上水内(かみみのち)郡の村。人口3888(1995)。筑摩山地に位置し,大部分が犀(さい)川の支流土尻川上流域を占める農山村。一部は北の裾花川流域にまたがる。土尻川沿いの狭い平地と山間の傾斜地に100余の集落が散在する。中心集落の高府は県道長野・大町線沿いの街村で,戸隠村に通ずる小川・戸隠線が分岐しており,古くから山中の交通上の要地であった。山腹の急斜面を利用した農業が主産業で,養蚕,畜産のほか,リンゴ,タバコなどが栽培される。
