Ogawa [village] - Ogawa
A village in Kamiminochi County in northern Nagano Prefecture. Population 3,888 (1995). Located in the Chikuma Mountains, it is a mountain and agricultural village, most of which occupies the upper reaches of the Tsuchijiri River, a tributary of the Sai River. Part of it straddles the Susobana River basin to the north. Over 100 settlements are scattered across the narrow plains along the Tsuchijiri River and the slopes between the mountains. The central settlement, Takafu, is a town and village along the Nagano-Omachi Prefectural Road, where the Ogawa-Togakushi Line branching off leads to Togakushi Village, and it has long been an important transportation location in the mountains. Agriculture, making use of the steep mountainside, is the main industry, and in addition to sericulture and livestock farming, apples, tobacco, and other crops are grown.
