...It is a case of regional communities led by nobles being integrated into a larger legal community. As a chain or accumulation of legal communities, several legal territories (lands, landskap) were formed in each of the three Nordic countries (Norway, Denmark, and Sweden) from the Viking Age to the early Middle Ages. The best-known example of the organization and formation process of such a gathering/legal community is Iceland.
