Japanese: ファールス - ふぁーるす（英語表記）Fārs

Southern Iran, bordering Khuzestan, Isfahan, Kerman, and the Persian Gulf. Currently one of the provinces of Iran, it has an area of about 150,000 m2 and a population of 3.54 million (1991). Its capital is Shiraz. Other towns include Kazerun, Fasa, and Lar. Aryan Persians arrived in the 1st millennium BC and the area was called Pārsa. The English word Persian comes from the Greek form Persis. It was the site of the rise of the Achaemenid and Sassanid dynasties, and is home to many ancient ruins, including Persepolis, Naqsh-i-Rustam, Pasargadae, and Firuzabad.

イラン南部，フージスターンとイスファハーン，ケルマーン，ペルシア湾に接する地方。現在，イランの州の一つで面積約15万m2，人口354万(1991)。州都はシーラーズ。ほかにカーゼルーン，ファサー，ラールなどの町がある。前1000年代にアーリヤ系のペルシア人が来住，この地はパールサPārsaと呼ばれた。英語のペルシアはそのギリシア語形ペルシスPersisに由来する。アケメネス朝，ササン朝興隆の地で，ペルセポリス，ナクシ･ルスタム，パサルガダエ，フィルザバードなど古代の遺跡が多い。
