…In 1698 (Genroku 11), the Edo Shogunate ordered Kawamura Zuiken to develop the area between Nagahori River and Dotonbori, which were connected to the Osaka Sango area, and dug a canal on the east and west sides of the central area, naming it the Horie River. Since then, the north side of the river has been commonly known as Kitahorie, and the south side as Horie. To promote the prosperity of Horie Shinchi, the Shogunate allowed 500 cargo ships and 24 new earthen ships, as well as teahouses, boiled teahouses, water teahouses, bathhouses, traveller's inns, hairdressing salons, Noh stages, theaters, sumo, fish markets, and vegetable markets, and incorporated it into Sango. The Horie River was filled in in 1960, but currently there are 1-5 chomes of Kitahorie and Minamihorie. …

…1698年(元禄11)江戸幕府は新地の開発を目的に,河村瑞賢に命じて大坂三郷地続きの長堀川,道頓堀にはさまれた地を開発させ,中央部東西に堀川を開削させて〈堀江川〉と名づけた。以後川の北側を北堀江,南側を堀江と通称するようになったが,幕府は堀江新地繁栄のため上荷船500艘,新土船24艘を許可したほか,茶屋株,煮売株,水茶屋,湯屋株,道者宿株,髪結床,能舞台,芝居,相撲,魚市,青物市を許し,三郷のなかに組み入れた。堀江川は1960年に埋め立てられたが,現在北堀江,南堀江各1~5丁目がある。…
