King of Silla, Korea. Reigned from about 355 to about 401. The first king whose existence is confirmed in the history of Silla. He rose to prominence among the ruling group, taking the title of "Maritkan" in addition to the traditional title of "Nishigeum", and sent envoys to Former Qin, which unified northern China (377, 382). Silla was under the influence of the advanced Goguryeo, but from about 390 it submitted to Wa, sent hostages, and was then suppressed by the Wa army. However, when King Gwanggaeto of Goguryeo attacked Baekje, which had connections with Wa, and took a strategy of advancing south, Silla paid tribute to Goguryeo in 400 and became its vassal, welcoming its troops and repelling the power of Wa and Kara.

朝鮮，新羅の王。在位355ころ‐401年ころ。新羅史上実在が確認される最初の王。その称号に従来の〈尼師今（にしきん）〉とともに新たに〈麻立干（まりつかん）〉を称して支配者集団のなかで頭角をあらわし，中国華北を統一した前秦に遣使している(377,382)。新羅は先進地域である高句麗の影響下にあったが，390年ごろから倭に服属して人質を送り，さらに倭軍の制圧をうけた。しかし高句麗の広開土王が倭に通じた百済を攻めて南進策をとると，400年高句麗に朝貢して臣従し，その軍を迎えて倭および加羅の勢力を退けた。
