His real name was Giuseppe Chiara (Chiara). He was a Jesuit born in Sicily, Italy. In 1643, he infiltrated Chikuzen Oshima with other priests and servants and was arrested. He was tortured in a prison in Koishikawa, Edo, and apostatized. He married, changed his name, became a religious official, and was kept in a Christian house.
