Akihiko Okamoto

Japanese: 岡本秋暉 - おかもとしゅうき

1807-1862 A painter from the late Edo period.
Born in 1815. Son of Ishiguro Masayoshi. Taking his mother's surname, he served the Okubo family, lords of Odawara Domain in Sagami (Kanagawa Prefecture). He first studied under Onishi Keisai, and later under Watanabe Kazan. He excelled in realistic paintings of flowers and birds, and his representative works include "Four Seasons of Flowers and Birds" and "Portrait of Ninomiya Sontoku." He passed away on September 24, 1862. He was 56 years old. Born in Edo. His given name was Ryusen. His nickname was Kakuju. He was commonly known as Yunojo. His other name was Akio.

文化4年生まれ。石黒政美(まさよし)の子。母方の姓をつぎ,相模(さがみ)(神奈川県)小田原藩主大久保家につかえる。はじめ大西圭斎に,のち渡辺崋山に師事した。写実的な花鳥画を得意とし,代表作に「四季花鳥図屏風」「二宮尊徳画像」がある。文久2年9月24日死去。56歳。江戸出身。名は隆仙。字(あざな)は柏樹。通称は祐之丞。別号に秋翁。
