An educational training facility that aims to teach the skills and related knowledge required for a job and is compliant with the Vocational Ability Development Promotion Law. (1) Most vocational training schools offer a two- to three-year course with junior high school graduation as the admission qualification, or a one-year course with high school graduation as the admission qualification, and are established and operated by prefectures, the Employment Promotion Corporation, individual companies, or unions of craftsmen and small business owners. Other types include (2) vocational training junior colleges with two-year courses with high school graduation as the admission qualification, (3) vocational training colleges with the same four-year course with the main purpose of training vocational training instructors, and (4) vocational training schools for the physically disabled. 職業に必要な技能と関連知識を教授することを目的とする教育訓練施設で,職業能力開発促進法に準拠している。(1)中学卒業を入学資格とする2~3年の課程,あるいは高校卒業を入学資格とする1年前後の課程をおく職業訓練校が最も多く,都道府県,雇用促進事業団,個々の企業,あるいは職人・小企業主の組合が設置運営している。そのほか,(2)高校卒業を入学資格とする2年課程の職業訓練短期大学校,(3)同じ入学資格の4年課程で職業訓練の指導員養成を主目的とする職業訓練大学校,(4)身体障害者職業訓練校などがある。
