…According to the Old Testament, around 1200 B.C., the tribes of Israel led by the judge Deborah set up camp on this mountain and fought against the chariots of the Canaanite army, winning a victory (Judges 4, 5). In addition, in an old Christian tradition, this mountain is said to be the site of the so-called Transfiguration, in which Jesus suddenly changed his appearance in front of his disciples Peter, James, and James' brother John, and spoke to Moses and Elijah (Matthew 17, Mark 9, Luke 9). A large church commemorating this event now stands on the ruins of the ancient church (completed in 1924). …
