…Albert Renger-Patzsch (1897-1966) began taking photographs of everyday objects and landscapes using the clear depiction power of the lens, and his work Die Welt ist schön (The World is Beautiful), published in 1928, brought a new awareness of beauty, due to the objective reproducibility that only photography possesses. Helmer Lerski's Köpfe des Alltages (Faces of Everyday Life), published in 1931, was a close-up portrait of a worker, which did not seek to get to the inner world of the subject, but instead brought a sense of reality by realistically depicting human skin. These movements were in contrast to the way photography was done at the Bauhaus, which was developed by L. Moholy-Nagy and others at roughly the same time, and both opened up new horizons by using functions to their fullest extent. …
