A river that originates in the Panhandle region of northwest Texas in the United States, flows eastward, forms the border between Texas and Oklahoma, and flows southeastward near the border between Texas and Arkansas before joining the Mississippi River in Louisiana. It is 2,043 km long. Near its source in Texas, it flows through a semi-arid region, but at the border between Texas and Oklahoma, it flows through a fertile red soil region, giving the water a reddish-brown color, from which the river got its name. It is possible to navigate the river as far as Shreveport. [Kanno Mineaki] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
