In 1900, Kitamura and Akizuki were the central figures in the group, which was re-established at the Asahiza Theater in Dotonbori. It was named the "New Theatre Association" and brought together former members as well as other major Shinpa actors, creating the so-called "Asahiza Period" for about 10 years (the second period). It performed modern plays adapted from newspaper novels, such as "My Sin," "Hototogisu," and "Konjiki Yasha," establishing a realistic style of performance and ushering in the heyday of Shinpa theater. *Some of the terminology used in reference to the "Asahi-za era" is listed below.
